If you obtain rebates through Medicare or private health, as discussed below, this will typically cover a substantial part of the cost of each session.
Medicare Rebates
Adults, adolescents, and children assessed by a GP, Paediatrician, or Psychiatrist as having mental health issues are eligible to receive Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions with a Psychologist or Mental Health Social Worker each calendar year.
If you have a referral to see us as part of a Mental Health Care Plan, you will receive a Medicare rebate of $82.30 for a Mental Health Social Worker, $93.35 for a psychologist with general registration, or $137.05 for a clinical psychologist (current as of May 2024).
Sessions with a provisional psychologist do not attract a Medicare rebate.
Please note that couple and family therapy are not approved treatments under Medicare.
How do I obtain a Medicare rebate?
Make an extended appointment with your GP, and ask for a Mental Health Treatment Plan (also known as a Mental Health Care Plan). During this appointment, speak with your GP about why you would like to consult a psychologist.
Your GP will assess you and your current difficulties, determining whether you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. If you are eligible, they will create the Mental Health Treatment Plan and provide you with a referral letter to the clinician of your choice. Please note that the letter does not have to to state the name of your preferred clinician.
Bring your referral letter to the first session, as this is required for you to obtain rebates.
We can process Medicare rebates at the time of your session, and they should go into your nominated bank account within 1-2 business days.
Private Health Rebates
If you have private health insurance that covers sessions with a psychologist, you may be entitled to certain rebates. Your health fund will be able to provide you with further information about this. We are registered with most major health funds. As we have HICAPS, you will only need to pay the gap between the full fee and your health fund rebate. Please bring your health insurance card to the session if you wish to claim private health rebates.
Payment
Payment is required at the time of your session. With your consent, we will securely store your card details and process payment at the end of each session. We also accept cash, cheque, and EFTPOS.
Cancellation Policy
We require 48 hours' notice within business hours for missed appointments, otherwise a cancellation fee will be charged.
