If you have experienced a traumatic event and appear to have trauma-related symptoms, or your child has undergone traumatic experiences, therapy with a psychologist with expertise in working with trauma can help.
At Aurora Psychology, our work is underpinned by a sound understanding of different types of trauma, and the range of effects they can have on individuals.
While many practitioners assert that they can work with trauma, they do not necessarily have specialised training or experience in this area. We are different. Prior to developing Aurora Psychology, our founder, Alana, worked in and managed a counselling service that specialised in working with children and adults who had experienced trauma, and she brings this expertise to the clinical work at Aurora Psychology. We are informed by modern neurobiological approaches to working with trauma, and use evidence-based therapies to assist you, whether you are recovering from one traumatic event or many.
In addition to this, Alana is trained in the use of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapy that is underpinned by the largest evidence base of all trauma therapies. This therapy, unlike some other approaches to trauma, does not require you to tell your whole story, and can be highly effective at managing distress and processing past trauma.
Our Doncaster location, in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, means that we aim to be accessible for individuals living in the east, north-east, or south-east of Melbourne.
