Fees and Rebates
We have a strong commitment to providing psychological services to the community, and as such, use a sliding fee scale upon request, based on your income and financial circumstances. We can provide a limited number of reduced fee and bulk bill sessions, typically during the day, and subject to availability.
Our fees reflect our level of qualification and expertise, and the strong commitment we have to ongoing professional development to ensure we are providing the best service for you.
Our session fees vary depending on whether you come during or after business hours, whether you have a Mental Health Care Plan, and whether you see a generalist or clinical psychologist.
If you do not have a Mental Health Care Plan, the fee per session is $165 within business hours (9am-5pm) and $170 outside of business hours (5pm and later on weekdays, and all day Saturdays). If you have a Mental Health Care Plan and see a clinical psychologist, your session fees will be higher ($204.70 during business hours or $209.70 outside of business hours), but your out-of-pocket expenses will be the same no matter whether you see a generalist or clinical psychologist.
Please note these fees are substantially lower than the Australian Psychological Society's recommended fee of $241, reflecting our commitment to providing high-quality, affordable services for the community.
If you obtain rebates through Medicare or private health, as discussed below, this will typically cover a significant part of the cost of each session.
In some instances, we can use a sliding fee scale upon request, taking into account your financial circumstances. Please contact us to discuss this further.
Children, adolescents, and adults assessed by a GP, paediatrician, or psychiatrist as having mental health issues are eligible for receiving Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions with a psychologist each calendar year. Please note that couple therapy is not an approved treatment under Medicare.
If you have a referral to see us as part of a Mental Health Care Plan, you will receive a Medicare rebate, and will have an out of pocket cost of $80.20 during business hours, and $85.20 outside of business hours.
How do I obtain a Medicare rebate?
- Make an extended appointment with your GP, and ask for a Mental Health Care Plan. During this appointment, speak with your GP about why you would like to consult a psychologist.
- Your GP will assess you and your current difficulties, determining whether you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan. If you are eligible, they will create the Mental Health Care Plan and provide you with a referral letter to the psychologist of your choice.
- Bring your referral letter to the first session, as this is required for you to obtain rebates.
We have HICAPS, meaning Medicare rebates can be instantly processed back into the account of your choice. If you consent to providing us with your Medicare details at the time of your first session, our practice management software means we can process these rebates without requiring your Medicare card to be presented at each session.
Private Health Rebates
If you have private health insurance that covers sessions with a psychologist, you may be entitled to certain rebates. Your health fund will be able to provide you with further information about this. We are registered with most major health funds. As we have HICAPS, you will only need to pay the gap between the full fee and your health fund rebate. Please bring your health insurance card to the session if you wish to claim private health rebates.
Payment is required at the time of your session. We accept cash, cheque, EFTPOS, and credit card.
We require 48 hours' notice for missed appointments, otherwise a cancellation fee will be charged.
